London Cinema: Best Pop Up Summer Screens

Nothing says summer like finishing off a weekday with a trip to the cinema, outside, with a glass of Pimms and strawberries or a pint of cider and sausage roll.

Here’s our list of London’s top 5 Outdoor Cinemas this summer, just remember to take a blanket! (and maybe an umbrella…)

1. Pop Up Screens

If you like 80s cult classics then these guys are absolutely for you. Screening all of the greats such as Labyrinth, The goonies and Pulp Fiction in some of London’s most idyllic settings (the Greenwich Peninsula, Bishop Park in Fulham and Eltham’s Tudor Barn) for just £10 a ticket, get your bomber jackets and Walkman’s at the ready! See the full listings here.

2. Film4 Summer Screen at Somerset House

One of the bigger outdoor summer screens, Film4 Summer Screens runs for two weeks with a mix of cinema classics, new film festival winners and brand new independents. The setting and lighting is breathtaking – though you will be sitting on the concrete so cushions are a must!

3. Rooftop Film Club

It’s a universal truth that watching a film on a rooftop, looking over London’s rooftops is cool. From the luxury of Kensington’s rooftop gardens to the up and coming Bussey Building in Peckham – you absolutely need to make time check these out this summer.

4. Hot Tub Cinema

An outdoor cinema list would not be complete without mentioning London’s somewhat ludicrous, but incredible, hot tub cinema. The name says it all. Watch a film. Outdoors. In a hot tub. What’s not to like?!

5. Drive in film Club

Actualise some of those Grease Lightening dreams with the drive in cinema club at North London’s Ally Pally. Sign up to their mailing list to hear first when the next event is on – tickets sell fast!
